Basketball is a welcoming, inclusive sport that is suitable for players, coaches and officials of all ages, genders and abilities. As a team sport, basketball helps encourage younger players to develop teamwork and leadership skills as well as improving their confidence and self-esteem.
Basketball NT and its Association partners deliver a wide range of programs for people of all ages and abilities to be involved in the game of Basketball.
There are great pathways in basketball that suit all participants. Whatever your ability, gender or age - you can represent your school, club, association, the Northern Territory and Australia, and can aspire to play, coach or referee in our national leagues, college, overseas leagues or even the Olympics.
Domestic or social basketball competitions are run by Associations in Darwin, Katherine and Alice Springs. These competitions cater for all age groups ranging from under-8 through to Senior Mens and Womens, and Masters grades. These can be a great introductory competition for juniors wishing to develop their skills or for friends wishing to play in after-work or weekend competitions against other adult teams.
Participants can register via a local junior club (if applicable) or direct to an Association depending on the size and location of the Association.
These competitions are often graded to suit all age and ability levels, giving further developmental capabilities for up-and-coming players and to find the right level of competition for you.
Basketball NT runs a number of programs for people of all ages, throughout the Territory, ranging from remote programs to all abilities in the participation space and Under 12 Futures to High Performance and NT teams in the development space. BNT also runs the NT Championships, school championships and 3x3 hustles.
